Being a teenager can be tough!
As a parent, it can be difficult to know if your teen’s behavior is just part of growing up or if it should be discussed with a health professional. It’s important to remember that there doesn’t need to be anything “wrong” for anyone to seek counseling. Therapy can be helpful for normal life stages or if you notice any of the following in your teen:
-
Constantly feeling sad, hopeless, worried, fearful, anxious, or angry.
-
Having difficulty concentrating or making decisions (ADD / ADHD).
-
Talking about death, expressing suicidal thoughts or harming others.
-
Have lost interest in things that they used to enjoy.
-
Are spending more and more time alone and avoid social activities with friends or family.
-
Fear of gaining weight or dieting or exercise obsessively.
-
Engage in self-harm behaviors (e.g., cutting or burning their skin)
-
Engage in risky or destructive behavior alone or with friends.
-
Relationship issues with friends, partners or siblings
-
Low self-esteem, feeling unworthy or not good enough
